Due to Covid19 pandemic that appeared few months ago and nonexistence of respirators in Italy, a movement of “makers” emerged with the intention of making respirators (open source and low cost). This initiative was expanded through Spain, and on 12 March the “Coronavirusmakers” group of telegram was created in Spain.
Apart from the respirators, other needs were appeared such as face protection shields, ear straps and masks. The group’s volume quickly has grown exponentially and diversified into different projects. The first project that was developed in a massive way, was the manufacture of face protection shields, and diverse groups were created by communities, provinces and countries. Specifically in Avila the group was created on March 19 ( https://t.me/AsociacionETE ) and currently has 144 members. Nowadays, it is estimated that more than 1,000,000 deliveries of protective visors throughout Spain.
The group of volunteers of Coronavirusmakers of Avila, was organized through Telegram. Initially, the TIDOP research group of the Higher Polytechnic School of Ávila has collaborated with all its resources, means and 3d printing materials, making them available to one of its researchers Enrique González, the coordinator of the group of volunteers.
Most of the equipments manufactured has been distributed within the province of Avila, although they have been sent to different points of the Spanish geography as well. All supplies of material have been made free of charge, thanks to the donations of material and economics received.
Although at first, these equipments did not have the certificate of homologation, subsequently it has been demonstrated their quality and functionality, since approximately one month after its design, the INSS validated one of the models manufactured by these groups of volunteers.
