The Tidop group donates a 3D replica to San Segundo church

It is a project carried out in collaboration with Global Geosystems.

On 2 May, Ávila celebrates the festivities in honour of its patron saint, San Segundo. On this special occasion, the Tidop group has made a significant contribution by donating a 3D replica of the sculpture of San Segundo by Juan de Juni to the church of the same name. This replica will allow visitors to appreciate the details of the figure up close and will also serve as a tool for the analysis and restoration of the original sculpture in the event of any deterioration, whether due to a catastrophe or minor damage, such as water leaks.

The process of creating this three-dimensional replica involved scanning the real statue in collaboration with Global Geosystems, which converted the information into a point cloud using ARTEC 3D. Due to the grids surrounding the original sculpture, photogrammetry could not be used. This point cloud was then transformed into an accurate 3D model, ready for printing.

The donation took place during the inauguration of the festivities, with the notable presence of Félix A. Ferrer, professor of History and town crier of the event, together with the president of the brotherhood of San Segundo, Juan Pedro Pedrero, the mayor of Ávila, Jesús Manuel Sánchez Cabrera, the councillor for City Services and Annexed Neighbourhoods, Javier Ajates, as well as several councillors from Por Ávila and the Partido Popular.

Miguel Ángel Maté represented the Tidop group at the event, while both he and Enrique González actively participated in the making of the sculpture.
