LAW-GAME: an interational virtual training platform for policemen

TIDOP research group of the Higher Polytechnic School of Ávila obtains 600000 € within the framework of the European macro project to develop a technological system that generates 3D scenes and environments of simulated accidents.

The University of Salamanca, through the TIDOP research group of the Higher Polytechnic School of Ávila led by Diego Gonzalez Aguilera, participates in the development of LAW-GAME: An Interactive, Collaborative Digital Gamification Approach to Effective Experiential Training and Prediction of Criminal Actions”, an international virtual training platform for policemen endowed with € 7 million that will broach the greatest current challenges in the police field at European level. The project will be executed within the framework of the call “Horizon 2020 – Research and Innovation Framework Program” and has the participation of 19 members among companies and research entities from 12 different countries.

The work of the USAL researchers will consist of developing a technological system that generates scenes and virtual representations of different accidents that can be used in a training platform for policemen, supported by video game technology, computer vision and artificial intelligence. To this end, the TIDOP Group will embark on the development of algorithms, necessary for the intelligent 3D reconstruction of the incident scene, in order to feed the LAW-GAME training system with real-world 3D data and environments. The intelligence layer will come from the use of segmentation techniques, unsupervised classification and 3D recognition, supported by the latest technologies in machine / deep learning. In addition, this artificial intelligence will serve to automatically create different simulated 3D incident scenes, enriched with formal and informal insights provided by inspectors and police, so that the LAW-GAME platform can be scaled and improved over time.
